"This album is a tribute to the great percussionist and drummer Charles "Don" Alias,
who I had the privilege of knowing and having drum classes when he was in Brazil."
Alfredo Dias Gomes
Don Alias, who passed away at New York city in 2006, is vastly recognized for his work at the vanguard of the fusion movement.
He was the son of Caribbean immigrants and grew up at Harlem, where he absorbed daily what the instrumentalists from the Cuban and Puerto Rican neighborhood had to offer.
He has played with Dizzy Gillespie, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Pat Metheny, Jack DeJohnette, Jaco Patorius, David Sanborn and Joni Mitchell, amongst others.
Alongside Gene Perla and the saxophonist Steve Grossman he created the afro-cuban fusion group Stone Alliance.
The band then went on tour at South America, participating in several records, even working with Marcio Montarroyos.
